Dare ProtoPlay was the culmination of a 10 week long competition during which 12 teams from around the UK developed their own video game prototype, all of which were on display for the public to play.  Held as part of the Fringe, alongside the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, visitors got to play new video games created by the students, created the largest games storyboard, challenged their musical and creative talent by making part of a game, took part in workshops where they learnt how a video game is put together and how they can be used as a learning tool, found out about the possibilities of a career in games as well as experiencing Realtime World's "Crackdown" corner.  Over 1,500 visitors voted for their favourite game (won by Voodoo Boogy for their game Ragnarawk). Visitors received a free souvenir from the event - a Dare comic book chronicling the adventures of a 'daring' group of young game designers.
