Dare to be Digital in Scotland
Host Centre
The University of Abertay Dundee is the Host Centre for Scotland. The Dare students will be provided with industry standard PC's and housed in Abertay's new White Space facility, allowing them to work in a near to real world studio environment. Their residential accommodation (self catering halls of residence) is situated within close walking distance.
The City of Dundee
Set by the River Tay on the east coast of Scotland, Dundee is home to a vibrant and growing creative industry - games companies, musicians, animators and the like (check out Interactive Tayside to see the pool of talent here).
For those of you coming from the bright lights of the big cities, you needn't be worried as Dundee has something for everyone. You can shop til you drop in the Overgate shopping complex, take in a film, sample some live music (it hosted Radio 1's Big Weekend in 2006) or enjoy late night comedy. Throughout the year Dundee is home to a number of national and local events including the Jazz Festival, Guitar Festival , Dance Festival, the Summer Rep Season, French and German film festivals and various gallery openings. It also hosts a European Market during the warmer months where traders from across Europe gather in Dundee to sell their wares, ranging from food and drink to flowers and unusual gifts. Visit clubs and bars knowing that Dundee boasts one of the safest city centres of any city in Scotland. It's also Scotland's sunniest city with over 1400 hours of sunshine per year.
The great thing about Dundee city centre is that it is so compact - you can walk anywhere, and Abertay is only 2 minutes walk from the centre.
