Dare to be Digital in the West Midlands
Host Centre
Birmingham City University is the host centre for the West Midlands. The Dare students will be provided with industry standard PC's and housed in the University’s enterprise and innovation facility, Screen Media Lab. Located in the heart of Birmingham’s Creative Quarter in Eastside, Screen Media Lab is a studio facility housing film-maker’s, interactive designers and animators. The city centre is within close walking distance.

Birmingham is a diverse and vibrant city that has the unique benefit of being located at the heart of the UK. The city and the surrounding areas offer a diversity of landscape, people, food, drink and attractions. Birmingham has one of the most compelling and eclectic arts scenes in the UK with a lively music scene ranging from classical and contemporary concerts in the world-class Symphony Hall to the best in new bands in a host of small venues across the city – the annual Gigbeth festival highlights the best of the city’s emerging talent. The Birmingham Hippodrome plays host to the Birmingham Royal Ballet adding to a buoyant theatre scene showcasing new and established plays from resident and touring companies.
The city has the youngest population in Europe and more students than any other UK city and therefore the nightlife to match with a choice of vibrant bars, numerous nightspots, comedy clubs and endless top-rated restaurants.
Birmingham plays host to international cricket (at Edgbaston Cricket Ground) and Tennis (the annual DFS Classic tournament) plus The Belfry golf club is nearby. And, when in season, the city hosts Premiership and Championship football.
Birmingham is a shopper’s paradise from Harvey Nichols in the Mailbox to Selfridges in the Bullring. There are vibrant markets and a world-famous Jewellery Quarter where hand-made craftsmanship waits at unbelievable prices. The city is close to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ironbridge Gorge, the Severn Valley Railway, Warwick Castle, Alton Towers and only 5 miles from the centre is Cadbury World in Bournville.
